Juneau Rowing Club Updates
Updated May 6, 2008
Spring Open House
2:00-5:00 PM on Saturday, June 7.
Come down to the Juneau Rowing Club floats at the north end of Aurora harbor to learn more about the Juneau Rowing Club, and for a chance to learn basic rowing techniques. You may take a club boat out for a row, and get some basic coaching on your technique. Refreshments served.
Gastineau Challenge Regatta
2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, July 19. This is our annual summer regatta, open to rowers of all ages and abilities. We’ll run two races, one for woman and one for men. If heats are necessary, we’ll hold those in the morning. The course is 1300 meters long, running from the day marker at 2 mile Egan drive, and finishing at the end of the sailing club’s dock in Gastineau Channel. Commemorative T-shirts for sale, and refreshments served.
Round Douglas Island Row- Date to be Determined
This summer a number of rowers would like to do a 2-day weekend rowing trip around Douglas Island. Rowers would camp on the west-side beach for the night. Because this is weather dependant, it will be scheduled on 7 day notice, when the long-range forecast is for sunshine and calm on a weekend. Pace will be leisurely. Camping gear for the crew will be carried in a double rowing wherry.
NEW MAILING ADDRESS - Please note the new mailing address (top of home page) for payment of all dues and float rental fees. It is: PO Box 21182, Juneau, AK 99802.
SPACE ON ROWING CLUB FLOATS - Annual rental fees for space on the rowing club floats are due May 15th. Fees are either 300 or 175 per year, depending on which float you are on. Current space holders have first dibs, but we expect a few spots to open up (assigned first come, first served). Having a place to store and launch your shell on the water makes a huge difference in the amount of use it gets. If you'd like to reserve a space on the floats for your rowing shell, please contact club president, Matt Kirchhoff.
